CARNIVAL!!:):)

Are you a clown, a princess, a dragon; maybe a superman or a soldier today? Why do people like to be someone or something else than themselves sometimes?

What memories do you have about the fancy- dress balls or masquerades when you were still a child?

If you want to be very up-to- date, you just have to be a NINJA TURTLE this year! :)

BODY LANGUAGE

In our daily communication we do not only use words to convey a certain meaning or message clearly. A great deal of the message is given with our body, gesticulation, tone, eye movements, pitch of our voice. Can you read those? Do you ever pay attention to a person who is speaking- is he telling you something he believes in (the truth), or has he just learnt something and isn't very persuasive? What do you know about the body language?

WILL YOU BE SENDING A VALENTINE CARD THIS YEAR?

I HOPE SO!! :)

What does St.VALENTINE'S mean to you?
Have you ever done anything special on that day? What was that?

If not, why don't you do something this year. Some romantic couples send each other cards (messages..., give candies, flowers, toys...) to remind each other of their affection. If you are shy, anonymous Valentine card can come very handy! ( The old tradition says you should not sign it.)

BE ROMANTIC AND INVENTIVE!!:)

HAPPY VALENTINE!!

DID THEY ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS?

I hope that you got some precious information today and yesterday. If you think that the information, from the faculty you visited, might help some other students, share them in the comments. What did you like? What were the things which disturbed you, one way or another? What are your further questions? Did the visit of the faculty help you to decide about your future career?.... You still have time to change your mind, get some more information, visit some other faculties...

WAS HE HAPPY OR MISERABLE? -task 5

Of course, we are still talking about our "friend" CHRISTOPHER.

TODAY YOU CAN CHOOSE BETWEEN TWO QUESTIONS (1,2)!

1.CHOOSE SOME OF THESE QUESTIONS, ANSWER THEM AND SUPPORT YOUR ANSWERS WITH AN EXPLANATION.

Was he a happy or unhappy teenager?
Do you like him or not?
Did he achieve what he wanted to, or not?
Is the book funny or sad?
Is it about an autistic child or about the life of a family?
Does it have a happy or a sad ending?
Would you like it to be made into a film?
Would you recommend it to anyone?
Do you think it is a good choice for the matura exam?
If not, what would you like to read?

2. IF YOU WERE A PARENT OF A "CHILD WITH SPECIAL NEEDS", HOW WOULD YOU RECOGNIZE AN AUTIST? Maybe you know one. If so, describe him/her.

This is the last task about The Curious Incident...

I hope you enjoyed the tasks?! SEE YOU...

BEFORE THE FINAL TASK

BEFORE THE FINAL TASK, I HAVE SOMETHING TO ASK YOU ABOUT.
Would you like me to keep this blog? Do you think that practising English in this way brings you any good? I have noticed that you hardly touch the school material, but you like much more the less "formal" posts. Am I right? OR Am I right?
SO , I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR SUGGESTIONS AND INTERESTING IDEAS ABOUT THE POSSIBLE FUTURE TOPICS :), QUESTIONS, etc...

JURE, WELCOME ABOARD!!

ANŽE HAS JOINED US!!

You can find him among the interesting comments given by the students of 4egf and 4egc. I'm glad you started commenting each other's ideas.

WELL, TODAY WE (4EGC) WENT TO THE NEW SCHOOL. But even if you haven't visited it yet (4EGF)! You've probably heard a lot about it.

I wonder how YOU feel about moving.

DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY!

I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT YOU ARE ALL GREAT:

MAŠA NEŽA ALENKA UROŠ NIKO LUKA

In this blog you can freely express your ideas and practice your English a bit differently. Do not worry about the mistakes and "silly" ideas!

"PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT" You have all shown that you have the GUTS!

TEENAGERS AND PARENTS - task 4

DEAR STUDENTS

How are you today? Are you ready for your next task?

You are now saying goodbye to your teenage period. I know that you all love your parents very much. Unfortunately we have all been disappointed sometimes by them. Christopher was no exception. He was a teenager who had to face the life and the fact that some ideas about his parents were shattered. What do you think about his mother and father? How do you think parents can cope with a child like Christopher? How would you feel if you were Christopher? WHO WAS A BETTER PARENT? DO YOU THINK HIS MOTHER DID THE RIGHT THING WHEN SHE LEFT HER HUSBAND AND CHILD?
You can also describe something from the life of somebody (your age) who had to face some difficult moments in his/her life. How did he/she survive?

I am looking forward to your bright and interesting comments!

HAVE FUN!

THIS IS NOT ANOTHER TASK

I AM HAPPY THAT SEVERAL STUDENTS STARTED COMMENTING.

ALL THE REST OF YOU CAN STILL START!!

THE MORE THE MERRIER!!

I have just been wondering if you, being the fourth year students, have any concerns about the MATURA, GOING TO THE UNIVERSITY OR FINDING A JOB. Or something else;(whatever) let's not forget your PROM...

You can talk to each other on this BLOG, or just exchange ideas!

I WILL LEAVE YOU ALONE ON THIS PART OF THE BLOG!!! ( I won't be giving any comments, so enjoy the privacy.)

"IT WAS NICE IN THE POLICE CELL" - task 3

It was almost a perfect cube, 2 metres long by 2 metres wide by 2 metres high. It contained approximately 8 cubic metres of air....(p.17)

This is the beginning of one of Christopher's descriptions. He likes order, he understands clear messages and images, he describes everything in detail and sometimes becomes "annoying", as one of my students said.

CAN YOU FIND OTHER PASSAGES IN THE BOOK WHERE HE DOES THE SAME?

AFTER YOU HAVE FOUND ONE, TELL US THE BEGINNING AND THE PAGE IN THE BOOK.

CAN YOU WRITE A TEXT PUTTING YOURSELF IN CHRISTOPHER'S SHOES? (Christopher cannot put himself in someone else's shoes.)

IT MIGHT BE FUN!!

MAKE HAY WHILE THE SUN SHINES - task 2

Christopher has problems understanding IDIOMS, PROVERBS, METAPHORS or QUOTES. They are nonsense phrases to him. He also cannot understand colloquial language.

CAN YOU EXPLAIN SOME OF THESE PHRASES?

1. either by giving an example in a context or
2. with an explanation

EXAMPLE:

YOU'VE BEEN TAKEN FOR A RIDE!

1. A: Look at these silver spoons I bought for only 30€ .
B: I'm afraid you've been taken for a ride. They are made of steel, not silver.

2. You paid too much.

NOW IT'S YOUR TURN!

TIP OF THE ICEBERG.
KILL TWO BIRDS WITH ONE STONE.
MAKE HAY WHILE THE SUN SHINES.
DON'T COUNT YOUR CHICKENS BEFORE THEY HATCH.
IT'S BETTER TO ARRIVE LATE IN THIS WORLD THAN EARLY IN THE NEXT.
PULL STRINGS.
MAKE A MOUNTAIN OUT OF A MOLEHILL.
PLAY SECOND FIDDLE.
PULL THE WOOL OVER YOUR EYES.
SETTLE OLD SCORE.
BUTTER SOMEONE UP.
BURN THE MIDNIGHT OIL.
BITE YOUR TONGUE.
YOU CAN LEAD A HORSE TO WATER BUT YOU CAN'T MAKE HIM DRINK.
WET BLANKET.
RED-CARPET TREATMENT.
OPEN A CAN OF WORMS.
GO BANANAS.
RAINING CATS AND DOGS.
HIT THE HAY.
HIT THE ROAD.
HIT THE BOOKS.
HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT.
FULL OF HOT AIR....

If you know an interesting IDIOM, PHRASE, SAYING, EXPRESSION,

SHARE IT WITH US! (in your comment)

WE WILL TRY TO EXPLAIN IT!

DEAR STUDENTS -4egc, 4egf

WELCOME TO MY / OUR BLOG.

I hope that many of you have already started reading The curious Incident...

This might help you to understand it better.

Every comment is welcome; even if so "modest".

Be courageous and you'll get rewarded!

LISTEN TO THIS - task 1

www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4707767

You are invited to listen to the interview with the author of the book The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night - Time, Mark Haddon. It is very interesting. While listening take notes and make some comments about the issues you find interesting. Don't forget, you can listen to it more than once!!!
HAVE FUN!
